With the latest changes to the rules from the Province, BC Athletics, and the City of Kamloops, we are planning some Mini-Meets over the next couple of months. These won’t be the usual full track and field meets but will feature various events so that most can hopefully be accommodated. Our schedule so far is as follows…
The first club meet sanctioned by BC athletics returned to competition on Saturday, Aug. 1 and 2, at Hillside Stadium. This meet was carefully set up to follow the rules of the Provincial Health Officer, BC Athletics, Via Sport, and the City of Kamloops. It was limited to 9 athletes and coach along with officials to manage the meet. Spectators were not allowed to view the meet from the throwing area.
Registration for our Youth Summer Camps is now open. These camps are for athletes who are 9 – 12 years old by Dec. 31, 2020. There are 2 camps – Aug. 2-7 and Aug. 11-14. They run from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm each day. Drop-off may occur from 7:45 am with a responsible person being there to receive your athletes and provide supervision.
Our track club is shut down for now. So workouts are still happening, but without our coach. Four of us work out together and help each other. Still keeping our routine of three workouts per week. Sure miss our other track mates. Sure miss our coach. Hurdling is sooo much fun.
Athletes and a coach from Kamloops Track and Field Club are in the running to receive awards for their performances in 2019. The awards include Male Athlete of the Year, Coach of the Year, PacificSport Interior BC International Excellence Award, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 52 Maters Athlete Award.
Sunday, May 31 was Dr. B’s 80th birthday. Judy organized a group of club members to gather and do a drive-by birthday wish for him. The video linked below shows how that went on a rainy morning.
